Perth’s funkiest beer garden. “To create the funkiest, smoothest beer garden in Perth” was the brief to the Tim Davies Landscaping when the Brisbane Hotel was converted from old pub to cool urban hub. Although a refurbishment of an existing hotel, the client wanted the character to be contemporary, with just a passing reference to period materials and forms. Street appeal was important, combining visual access to happy patrons with a sense of enclosure and security to those within. The ability to accommodate a remote bar when crowded and make the space more intimate at times of low patronage was also on the wish list, as were “bullet-proof” plantings. Thanks to its funk factor, the Brisbane has been one of Perth’s most successful hospitality venues since it opened.
